By April 2020, close to 1.6 billion children and youth were out of school. And nearly 369 million children who rely on school meals needed to look to other sources for daily nutrition.
Never before have so many children been out of school at the same time, disrupting learning and upending lives, especially the most vulnerable and marginalised. The global pandemic has far-reaching consequences that may jeopardize hard won gains made in improving global education." -UN Sustainable Development Goals - Education
In Klemtu our program is centered on the development and preservation of culture, education regarding sustainable non-extractive industry and the conservation of resource and wildlife habitat within the Kitasoo/Xai’xais territory. Since the program’s inception in Klemtu in 2012 we have had remarkable results in the number of our students pursuing higher education, and following career paths into fields that will benefit the community for many years to come.
Klemtu SEAS Program
Sua means thunder in Xai'xais. We strive to provide the people of Klemtu with opportunities to connect with their roots and maintain the important practices of the Kitasoo/Xai'xais culture. Together alongside Spirit Bear Lodge, our sponsors, and the beautiful Kitasoo/Xai'xais Nation, we can be as powerful as thunder.
The Súa Cultural Program provides opportunities for cultural learning and revitalisation for the community of Klemtu. Súa focuses on sharing cultural knowledge through songs, dance, art, storytelling, food/medicine harvesting, and community trips within KX traditional territory. SBL funds Súa with help from Make Way and FPPC.
